Hello!
« on: April 20, 2014, 05:39:38 AM »
Hey everyone,
New here from washington.
Been an electronics geek since I was a kid and always build my own stuff if possible, even if it's more expensive than retail LOL.
my 180G tank I had in California was controlled by the Hydra controller that was a group project on Reef Central.  I stumbled across this forum on a google search.  I was getting bored of my pi being used as an XBMC server, so started looking at using it to control my new tank.  Only 55G for now.  Hardware wise, I have it designed with an 8 channel 10 bit A/D, 2 MCP23017 16 channel GPIO expanders, RTC, Analog PH probe amp, 20x4 VFD display for quick glance at params/status, IR remote control and a 3.5" TFT touchscreen for the main display.
It will be running a web server, and also send off emails and/or texts when params exceed certain limits.
I'm also looking into ORP probes for monitoring salinity.  Looks like similar circuitry to the PH probe.
Teaching myself Python now.  Going to make the software modular.
